Anyone looking for a real-money casino app for Android in Germany finds no listing for it in the Google Play Store; what remains is an APK file from the operator's website or play in the browser. The reason lies in Google's rules and in the operators' licences, not in the technology. The overview of the casino app compares Android, iPhone and web app side by side; this page covers Android only: where the file comes from, how large it is and which Android version it requires.

The basis is the data on four casinos: 22Bet, Irwin, Frumzi and 5Gringos. Only for 22Bet and Irwin do sources name an Android app, while Frumzi and 5Gringos run in the mobile browser.

Why Android casino apps come as an APK

Google Play bans real-money gambling apps in principle. An app is only admitted after an application process with Google and with a valid gambling licence for every country in which it appears. Germany is on the country list for licensed gambling apps (as of 08.10.2026), but for Germany Google names only sports betting, horse racing and lotteries. Online casino games and virtual slot machines are missing from the German list, while they are listed for countries such as Ghana or Greece.

Then there is the licence question. A full-text search of the GGL whitelist returned 0 hits each for Frumzi, 5Gringos, 22Bet and Irwin and for their operating companies; the whitelist contains no information on apps in any case. In countries without a licence, an admitted app has to block access technically and exclude minors.

Android itself leaves a second route open: developers may host APK files on their own website or server and distribute them via a download link. goal.com describes this route for 22Bet; for Irwin, no source names the file format of the app.

Forum voices show the same chain of questions: the app is missing from the Play Store, so users look for an APK from the website, and then ask whether that file is safe. A listing on an APK portal does not always help either, because such listings can be blocked by region: the German Uptodown page for the 22Bet app states “Download an deinem Standort nicht verfügbar” (download not available at your location).

V

APK source by operator

According to goal.com, 22Bet offers a native Android app as an APK that is not in the Google Play Store and can only be obtained from the official 22bet website. LCB also lists an app (“App Available: Yes”). The steps according to goal.com: download the APK from the official site, allow “Unknown Sources”, open the file. The goal.com details come from its Indian edition, and German confirmation is missing. All values for the 22Bet app covering Android, iOS and push notifications are collected on the brand page.

There is a separate guide for downloading the file itself: the page on the 22Bet APK for Android describes source, file size and installation path for this one package only. According to goal.com, push notifications exist only in the app and not on the mobile website.

Irwin names an app for Android to download. AskGamblers lists “Mobile Apps: IOS, Android”, and LCB also shows “App Available: Yes”. Asked by a player, the casino pointed to the download icons at the bottom of the home page. Whether an APK file sits behind them, the answer does not say. The Irwin Casino app has its own page with all known data and the conflicting sources on iOS.

Frumzi has no native app and no APK; LCB says “App Available: No”, and AskGamblers describes play without an app download. frumzi.com carries a web app manifest with “display: standalone”, which opens the site like a standalone app without an address bar. No installation guide from the operator was found. How the Frumzi app works as a web app instead of a download is shown step by step on the brand page.

5Gringos has no native app either; according to AskGamblers “No app is required”, and play happens in the mobile browser. Here too, the website carries a manifest with “display: standalone”.

For the iPhone, the sources disagree on two brands. According to goal.com, 22Bet is in the App Store, and according to AskGamblers so is Irwin; a search via the iTunes interface for Germany on 08.10.2026 found no app for either brand. Why there is no APK on Apple devices and what role the web app plays there is explained in detail on the page about the casino app for iPhone.

VI

File size and Android version

Fixed figures exist only for 22Bet, and even there from two sources with different values. According to goal.com, the APK is 55.36 MB; the same source also gives “App Size 156 MB” without saying for which platform. The German Uptodown page states 53.19 MB. The values are a little over 2 MB apart; neither source gives a version number.

The Android version figures also differ: goal.com names Android 6.0 or newer and a processor from 1.2 GHz, while Uptodown says “Erfordert Android 7.0 oder höher” (requires Android 7.0 or higher). For iOS, goal.com names version 12.0 or newer.

For Irwin, Frumzi and 5Gringos there is no data on size or minimum version. For Frumzi and 5Gringos the question largely disappears, because no package is installed; what the device needs to handle then depends on the browser.

The Android version also decides where the permission for outside files sits. From Android 8.0, installation is allowed per source, for example only for the browser or only for the file manager, in the system screen “Install unknown apps”. Up to Android 7.1.1 there is instead the global setting “Unknown sources” under Settings › Security. Some network carriers do not allow installation from unknown sources at all.

Since 30.09.2026, a new rule applies in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand: apps on certified Android devices must be registered by verified developers. A worldwide rollout has been announced for 2027, and Germany is not part of the first phase. Whether the rule applies from Android 7 or from Android 8 is described differently on two Google pages.

VII

Storage space and performance

Lack of storage is the first cause named in forums when an installation fails: “Zu wenig Speicher” (not enough storage). With updates, a second issue comes in: the new version needs more space than the current version occupies. Free storage should therefore not sit close to the file size, which for 22Bet means well above the values given above.

Storage is not always the cause, though. A user with a Fire tablet reports “App not installed” even though, by their own account, there was enough free space and a restart changed nothing. Forum advisers then name three other reasons: the device is not compatible, the APK is damaged, or installing unknown apps is not allowed. A checklist from the same forums asks about storage, compatibility and whether the Android version is too old.

After installation, the APK file is no longer needed. To the forum question whether the installation file can be deleted, the answer is: the app stays installed even when the APK is deleted. This way the space taken by the download can be recovered.

On performance, players describe two patterns. One is stutter and drop-outs: of Frumzi it is said that “The games run a little shaky on mobile”, and in another report a game slows down after a few rounds and throws the user out. The other is an app that loads only the start screen; one piece of advice for that is switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. For 22Bet, a player writes that missing sound in the phone app came back after clearing cache and cookies.

How different the impressions are is shown by voices on the 22Bet app: from “grausam” (dreadful) to “übersichtlich” (clearly laid out). On Uptodown one user writes that the 22Bet app has had “bisher keine Ruckler oder Abstürze” (so far no stutters or crashes), and a second that it “ruckelt nicht wie einige andere” (does not stutter like some others). For individual brands the number of such voices is small, and many reports on casino apps come from the USA.

VIII

Installation and safety at a glance

Android blocks any installation outside Google Play until the user allows the installation of unknown apps; this permission has to be granted before download and installation. Then come the download, opening the file and confirming. Each step with the menu paths for Android 8 and older devices is shown in the guide on how to install a casino app, including updates and error messages.

Typical error messages during setup are “beim Parsen des Pakets ist ein Fehler aufgetreten” (there was a problem parsing the package), “The app was not installed because the package conflicts with an existing package” and the message that the package is damaged. A package conflict often arises during an update: the signature has to stay the same, and sometimes the old version has to be deleted first.

On the file format there is a common question: what separates an APK from an XAPK? An XAPK bundles the APK with extra files such as OBB data or split APK parts. For 22Bet, goal.com and Uptodown name an APK; no source mentions an XAPK.

On safety, Google Play Protect applies, and it is switched on by default. It checks apps during installation and scans the device regularly, including apps from other sources, and it can block or remove known harmful apps. Unverified apps with sensitive permissions, often a target of financial fraud, can be prevented from installing. Google recommends always leaving Play Protect switched on.

Google generally advises downloading through Google Play and warns that apps from unknown sources can put the device and data at risk. During such an installation, the device may send information such as app URLs, device ID, Android version and IP address to Google. How to recognise a genuine file and what role its origin plays is covered on the page about casino APK safety with Play Protect and checks.

One hint from the forums concerns file size: a file that is much smaller than the original, for example 10 MB instead of 200 MB, is seen there as a warning sign of a modified version. Measured against the values given above for 22Bet, a file far below them would therefore stand out.

Short answers

FAQ

Are there real-money casino apps in the Google Play Store for Germany?

For Germany, Google Play admits only sports betting, horse racing and lotteries as gambling apps. Online casino games and slots are not listed for Germany. Casino apps for Android therefore come as an APK from the operator's website or as a web app in the browser.

Is a casino APK free?

None of the sources names a price for the 22Bet or Irwin APK. For admitted gambling apps in the Play Store, Google requires that they are free to download and do not use Google Play in-app billing.

Which Android version does the 22Bet APK need?

According to goal.com, Android 6.0 or newer and a processor from 1.2 GHz; according to Uptodown, Android 7.0 or higher. For Irwin, Frumzi and 5Gringos there is no data.

What does “there was a problem parsing the package” mean?

Android cannot process the package. Forums name an incompatible Android version, a damaged file or a missing permission for unknown apps as causes.

Can I delete the APK file after installation?

Yes. The app stays installed even when the APK file is deleted. A later update needs a new APK with the same signature.

What do users of Huawei devices without the Play Store do?

On such devices, AppGallery is the store. In a forum, one user reports a game that was not available through AppGallery and that he installed via the APKPure portal; his follow-up question was about updating such apps.

How to read the table

Three rules apply to every row on this page.

I

Where a value comes from

Each row names the source the value was taken from: the operator's own pages (terms, FAQ) or named portals. Which source states what is set out in the text below the table.

II

When a value is missing

If none of the recorded sources states a value, the field stays empty or is marked as not listed. We do not estimate or fill gaps.

III

When sources differ

Where sources disagree, the text below the table gives both values. Differing values from other sources are documented in the brand's app profile.
